Annette Muller/Latham

_____________________________________________________________________________

L to R: Gillian, Dr Catherine, Annette, John (mid-2005, before John passed away)

Annette (Muller) enjoyed her second Year 12 much better than the first (of course, I was with all of you!!). Then she went off to Kelvin Grove Teachers' College and taught in Bundaberg and Gladstone. In 1972, the only exit from Gladstone was marriage or death, and being the wise girl she is, Annette chose the former.

John (Latham) was principal at Boolboonda one-teacher school near Mt Perry and he was looking for a change too. He'd decided that being a principal was not for him.

They got married on 1 May 1972. The only available position for Annette was at Bullyard where she taught for the rest of the year, and then did a swap with another teacher and taught at South Kolan until 1977.

Catherine was born in 1978 and Gillian was born in 1984. The year after Gillian's birth, Annette went back to teaching on supply until 1992 when she went back full-time at Walkervale. She was soon headhunted for Norville and taught there until 2000.

Since then, she has been a Year One teacher at East State School. She loves the job and the kids' mums and dads love her. She was voted "my favourite teacher" for the district in 2006.

In 2005, John lost a five-year battle with cancer but lived to see Catherine don her doctoral gown at UQ in July 2005. Gillian graduated from QUT in media and communication in June 2005.
