15 September 1966 at the Railway Picnic (how iconic of Bundy is that??). Taken by Mr Volkes, "The flying Dutchman", for Cunningham Studios.

Leigh Bamsey/Petersen tells me that (a) that should be Ko Valks, not Volkes; and (b) as at 16 October 2006, he very recently passed away.

L to R: Mary Lawrence, Helena Jackowski, Dianne Lavering, Bernice Macatee, Jenny See, Aileen Lawrence, Donna Studholme.

Helena writes:

Yes we had fun in those days. I remember we (girls in the photo plus Bev and Sue and not Dianne) camped in Jenny See's garage. It was right on the street, but a side street, on the corner of Hughes Road and Bargara Rd at Bargara and cooked over a small fire on the FOOTPATH.

We were all as black as ever from so much sun and no sunblock. Jenny's mum called us (and we are not allowed to say it these days) 'abbos'. At night time we used to walk to Bargara singing along the road and on Sunday some of the girls had to come with me to the Catholic Church at Bargara. The priest drove us home once in his VW.

On holidays, Jenny and I used to "man" 2 trampolines at Bargara up near the skating rink and collect 2 shillings (I think) for a ten minute bounce. I forget what we were paid but a guy asked us to do it for him as we were always at the beach. We were only 15/16. Jen and I lived at the beach.

I would catch the bus to her place and we would walk the 2kms to the beach carrying our surfboards. (I'd leave mine at her place). In our spare time we would paddle out on our surfboards and lie on them beyond the breakers for hours in the sun. Jenny was the female champ board rider, but mine was just for show. (I couldn't master it). If it was raining we would sit in the Kiosk and listen to the juke box and drink milk shakes. And we didn't even know about "Happy Days". We had our own happy days.!!!
