The Jacques Family

The Jacques family was from Yorkshire, and appears to have been only briefly in Southwold. It appears to have no relationship with another Jacques family that was prominent in the silk-ribbon industry.

This page draws almost entirely on Geoff Clarke's research.

The relevance to this web-site is that Margaret Jacques (1763?-1843/44) was G4M to myself and Anne, and her father, Robert Jacques (1722?-1778) was our G5F.

The name Jacques sometimes appears as Jaques, without the 'c', and once, later, as Jakes. Literacy wasn't necessarily a strong-point in the family until the generation that grew up post-WWI.
