The Spinaze Uncles and Aunts – Joe's siblings, 1871-1969?

This page contains details of the children of Lorenzo Spinaze (1844-1893) and Maria nee Gabriel-Zanette (1845-1934).
These are Linda's Great-Grand Parents on her father's father's side, i.e.
the top-level of people listed here were Linda's Great-Aunts and Great-Uncles.

The photo to the right was taken at 4. Antonio's property at Tullera (now Modanville), at the celebration of Maria's 80th, in 1925.
It includes all of her 8 children and children-in-law, and some of her grandchildren.

The Upper Spinaze Line (i.e. these people's parents and grandparents – 1820-1934) are on a separate page.

Linda's nameline is 5.Giuseppe Spinaze (1880-1979), and those details are also on a separate page.

  1. Lucia / Lucy Spinaze (1871-1964)
    An expeditioner, aged 10
Lucy missed out on the New Italy school, because at 14 she was too old when it was opened.
So she remained unable to read or write.
    m. Angelo NARDI (1866-1945) – also an 1880 Expeditioner, aged 14.
m.1 Jun 1889, in New Italy.
Angelo worked on the Tuckombil Canal nearby, and cut cane for the Broadwater Mill.
They left New Italy in 1902, and later had their own property at Tuntable and then Nimbin.
Lester said that he was a chairmaker.
12 children, 2 of whom died in their early twenties. See the Stud Book pp. 146-151.
In the Stud Book photo on p.240, Lucia and Angelo are near the centre in the back row.
They retired to Goonellabah (just east of Lismore) in 1930.
    Angelo d. 1945.
Photos of Lucy from 1961 are on pp. xiii and 147 of the Stud Book.

The two photos are difficult to interpret.
    1. is maybe 1912? And T(h)eresa/Jane and Arthur? But who is the older woman?
    2. is which Teresa? 1913 falls between mother and daughter. So maybe the daughter's 21st in 1923?
In the Stud Book photo on p.240, Jane and Connie are to the right of centre in the back row.

    m. Fiorina (Florrie) Bazzo (1881-1948)
    m. in 1911?, aged 34?, where?
Was she 30 when she married Tony?
The two known children's birthdates are 1914 and 1916.

Fiorina was of an Expedition Family, and born during that awful transit. In January 2013, Sylvestre Buoro emailed from the south of France, attaching an extract from a document he found concerning Fiorina's baptism.
Fiorina was b. 26 January 1881, actually at Port Breton, New Ireland, and even more remarkably she was baptised in Noumea on 29 March 1881, during the 3 weeks (12 March to 2 April) that the survivors were there prior to trans-shipment to Sydney: "The year of Our Lord 1881, on the 29th of March, I undersigned priest of Noumea declare having [celebrated?] the ceremony of the baptism/christening of Florentina Theresa Pazo [cf. Bazzo], daughter of Antonio Pazo and of Theresa Buoro, born in Port-Breton on the 26th of January 1881, "got as godfather" Hodister Arthur. (Signed : Pionnier)".
According to the Stud Book (p. 34-35), Fiorina's father, Antonio Bazzo (1845-1910) and her mother Teresa Buoro (1843-1932) – photos on pp. 34-35 – were both from Codogne, and were 37 when she was born. Teresa's parents – presumably relations of our informant Sylvestre's – were Giuseppe Buoro and Angela Gava.

7 children, incl. Mary and Teresa / Tess, known to Linda's family, details on pp. 245-6 of the Stud Book
Antonio moved to Tullera some time between 1903 and 1925, and remained there.
Neville says that Tullera is now called Modanville, on the Dunoon Rd, 10km N of Lismore.
In the Stud Book photo on p.240, Tony and Florrie are near the centre in the back row.
There's a probable photo of Florrie, in the 1930s, in a large group, on p. 185 of the Stud Book
Len Barnes remembers Tony as a successful farmer ("even his sharefarmers made money"), and very outgoing.
