Roger Clarke's Score of 'Waltzing Matilda'

The Original Score of Waltzing Matilda

In early 1895, Christina Macpherson played a tune to company including Banjo Paterson, based on her memory of a melody in a march played months earlier and over a thousand miles away. After Paterson came up with some words, she wrote up the tune that's been used ever since. Apparently it takes a good ear to pick the tune as having originated with 'Craigielee'. (Maybe, even in those days, they were already skilled at avoiding 'look, feel and sound-like' copyright cases).

You can also have a look at Banjo's original manuscript for the song.
